Our Story

Family owned and run Springhill Farm Holiday Accommodation is based on our family's 650 acre working farm in Seahouses, Northumberland, run by my husband Colin, son Simon, daughter Sarah and myself Julie. Springhill is a private, family business created through blood, sweat and tears but with a lot of pride.

The Foot and Mouth crisis in 2001 in which all Springhill's stock was culled, brought the farm (and our family) literally to its knees. It was a combination of events that triggered and inspired our family to take a leap of faith in to the unknown and start a holiday accommodation side line to the farm. I then began letting out three spare farm cottage's to holiday makers along with a small 5 van caravan site.

The success of our small scale tourism business then fuelled thoughts of expansion, in our minds. Sarah, still in full time education, then began to take a more active role in the accommodation business, forming a business plan to see how they could become the best holiday accommodation provider in the area.

Since joining me in 2006, the accommodation business is now run by my daughter Sarah and me. Sarah has overseen and project managed the transformation of redundant farm buildings at Springhill into eight five star holiday cottages and extended the small 5 van caravan site into a larger 25 pitch caravan and camping park with great success.  The business has since snowballed, going from a lifestyle enterprise to being the mainstay of the family farm business.

Following on from this, with a drive to provide a diverse collection of holiday accommodation, in 2009 we went on to converted a former cowshed in to the 'Lookout' bunkhouse,  offering low-cost, single night occupancy - an answer to a real gap in the market - to 5 wigwams and top-end accommodation for those looking for every conceivable luxury.  This also provided to opportunity to again, extend our caravan and camping site with a further 25 pitches.

The most recent addition to Springhill, taken on in 2014, is The Hides, five former diving chalets which Sarah has transformed into fantastic, en-suite, bed-only accommodation snugs.
